OLALA is very much a family business. Our designers Maree Choie & Raphael Mann began by making clothes for their baby daughter, Mika, and even though she is rapidly growing out of the OLALA size range, Mika is still our best test of the success of a new design. If she doesn’t say, ‘Can you make one of those for me!?’, we usually go back to the drawing board.

With Mika as a walking advert for their designs Maree & Raphael soon began taking requests from friends and acquaintances (and random people in the street) for bespoke pieces, and graduated from there to conceiving OLALA.

Our remit is to design practical, comfortable, durable, wearable clothes for all occasions for babies, toddlers and pre-school age children (new-born to approximately 4 or 5 years old), which are also beautiful to look at. Most of our clothes are equally suitable for everyday wear and for special occasions, and can be mixed and matched with other OLALA items or with readily available staples (such as plain bodysuits) to create outfits for most weathers and a wide range of activities.

The majority of our clothes are intended to be unisex, and we aim to make our designs comfortable for real children’s bodies, and suitable for the things that real children get up to. We are inspired by Asian, African & European traditions, and aim to combine these influences to create something which is unique and beautiful as well as utilitarian.

OLALA is based in Ramsgate on the Kent coast of England, and all our clothes are hand made locally.
