A jinbei is traditional Japanese garment set consisting of a ‘kimono style’ top & shorts. The top has a wrap-around front, with two fabric ties (one inside and one outside), and wide sleeves, and the shorts are long & loose-fitting with an elasticated waist. Both are designed to be comfortable and easy to move in. We think this is the ideal combination for boys & girls on the move, and works equally well for everyday wear and for special occasions.
Batik is a style of printing on fabric (usually cotton or a cotton mix) using wax blocks, popular for many centuries particularly in Africa & Asia. Our batik cotton jinbei sets are ideal for warmer weather, offering comfort, freedom of movement & good ventilation for busy little bodies. When the weather gets cooler they can be worn with a layer or two underneath (there’s plenty of room for bodysuits, thermal vests & woollen tights), and/or with a pair of our loose-fit trousers in place of the shorts.
The fit is loose, and will give you plenty of wear. Read our ‘Size guide‘ for more info.
